Bethlehem Fair Trade Artisans
Bethlehem Fair Trade Artisans (BFTA) is a fair trade organization that promotes and sells handicrafts that are created by Palestinian artisans. These handicrafts celebrate Palestinian culture and tradition in olive wood, embroidery, mother of pearl, olive oil soap, felt wool and recycled products. BFTA provides major support for 53 family-owned olive wood workshops, ceramics and blown glass factories, 50 women’s cooperatives and groups working with embroidery, recycled glass, basket weaving and jewelry making and five disabled groups making felt wool products and recycled cards.
BFTA seeks to go beyond fair trade outlets with their high quality handmade products by partnering with USA businesses that market similar products. They are also interested in providing products that are designed to meet the specific needs of American consumers. Their product categories include olive wood, ceramics, embroidery, felt wool, recycled glass and paper as well as silver jewelry.-
